Observations intéressantes dans le Parc National d’Outamba-Kilimi

Sierra Leone has 626 bird species recorded in an area of similar size to Scotland. A 10 year conflict and its aftermath has denied birdwatchers the opportunity to visit in the recent past, but this is slowly changing as peace and democracy take hold.
Robert Langhendries and Benoît Forget visited the most important bird areas from the 27th of December 2009 to the 22th of January 2010. They present their trip in our blog.
They visited the Outamba-Kilimi National Park which is located in northwest Sierra Leone near the border with the Republic of Guinea. The park is divided into two areas, Outamba (741 km²) and Kilimi (368 km²). The vegetation is mainly savannah. We publish here their list of Bird Records of Interest for the area, that includes a pair of Grey Kestrel Falco ardosiaceus, two Thicked-Billed Cuckoos Pachycoccyx audeberti following a group of white Helmet Shrikes, and a White-Fronted Black Chat Myrmecocichla albifrons.
