Un Cincle plongeur dans la proche banlieue de Paris en juillet 2010

The Dipper (Cinclus cinclus) is an aquatic passerine bird found in Europe and the Middle East. It is about 18 centimetres long, rotund and short tailed. The adult is brown with a white throat and upper breast.
Its is closely associated with swiftly running rivers and streams. It can walk underwater along the riverbed in search of food. The white ‘eyelid’ which can be seen when they ‘blink’ helps to protect the eyes when they are searching for food underwater.
It also walks and runs on the banks and rocks seeking terrestrial invertebrates. The winter habits of the Dipper vary considerably and apparently individually.
In France, it breeds in the North-east of France, the Pyrénées, the Alps, the Massif central, and the South-east, excepted the Mediterranean coast. It is mainly sedentary, but when the streams are frozen it can be forced to descend to the lowlands and even visit the coasts.
